Everything worked great for the first 1 year. No issues anywhere. Second year onwards, it showed its true colors.
One day the output dropped suddenly and the technician came and changed the fresh water SV.
After few days, the flow dropped again. They now claimed that the RO membrane is blocked. This is when my input TDS is just 240 ppm. Anyway, they changed it after I paid the charges. They claim 2 year’s warranty on RO membrane but they deny it at that point. So, I had to pay upfront and then raise it at multiple levels to get the same refunded.
For the next 2 days, my water tank started getting completely empty. Some other SV failed this time and the RO started wasting water. It seemed like the second technician messed something up. This time again, they changed few things at exorbitant prices (a normal connector which costs Rs.15 in the market was charged at Rs.120, etc.)
UPDATE: Issue not yet fixed.
This was the ordeal that I had to face.
They also try to sell you the AMC which costs more than 5k per year.
Overall highly unreliable product and exorbitant service/maintenance costs.
If you are ready to shell out 5k per year, go for it.
Another Update (22 months): it is wasting a lot of water and not automatically shutting off. Empties complete 1000L tank if left on over the night.

Machine did not start and water was leaking from it. Instalation team from AO Smith confirmed that Product is Defective. Now asked Amazon to return and refund but difficult for us to send package in original packing.

Product delivered on time, called AO Smith call centre for raising installation request and within 1 hour, technician called back. In 2 hours he reached my place and took 30 minutes to install including drilling the washing sink for fixing the tap.
Excellent work, thoroughly professional and he looks very well trained.
Water quality is very good 55ppm TDS as compared to 850 before filtering.
Highly recommend this product.
I had seen reviews complaining about service. But the service in Bangalore has been highly commendable.

Almost 6months later, I am forced to change my comments about the product. I had to call the service technician 4 times already. Being in Bangalore my water input is always higher than 800ppm TDS, but after filtering I was getting 80ppm. But within 2months (Oct) it had gone to 200+ and water taste went bad. Got the technician to change some nozzle kind of part and water was good again (salt deposit was causing the problem). Then again in Dec, then in Feb and now already within 3 weeks it has gone beyond 200 again.. So far not a huge issue since it is all covered in warranty.
But to raise service request and have the technician do his things every 2 weeks is not going to be a good option going further especially after warranty expires in a few months.
Technician says 800ppm TDS is too much for the filter, but the official website says it can handle upto 2000ppm (https://www.aosmithindia.com/buy-water-purifiers-online/x-series-ro-purifiers/x5plus) This is disappointing. They should have a solution to take care of cities where the input water quality is bad. Some extra pre-filtering or whatever

AO Smith seems to have a habit of making tall claims. I learnt it the hard way.
I bought AO Smith X5+ RO Water Purifier recently. The company says while selling its product (on its website and elsewhere) that it is offering 2-year warranty on membrane with the condition that input water’s TDS should be less than 2000 ppm and hardness less than 400 ppm.
Even after meeting the requirements, it is not ready to provide the 2-year warranty on membrane to me. I first tried to resolve the issue on mail, but to no avail. Then, after calling customer care, I was given wrong information that the TDS should be less than 200 ppm. If TDS of original source should be 200 ppm, why would you need an RO. And brochure says 2000 ppm. They are themselves confused.
It is a complete breach of trust. No matter how many times you make complaint on mail or call its customer care, it is just useless. The customer care doesn’t have any idea about their own website, product or any other thing.
It is better to never buy any AO Smith product as it is an untrustworthy company. It makes commitments it will never keep. Please treat it as a warning from a troubled customer. Never fall for any claim of AO Smith… Don’t invest your hard-earned money in buying their product and never even waste time on considering their product.
