Okay, I am going to TRY and save you some time installing this printer to print wirelessly because I just SPENT THREE HOURS doing so. I am not a techie, okay? I do pretty well, but not a computer geek that knows what TC/PIP or other crap means. But I’m smart and tenacious and I love the satisfaction of figuring something out. I knew when I purchased this printer that it would be a BIATCH to make it printer wirelessly, especially for Mac users. But I do love a challenge, I suppose.
For wired installation: It printed wired in almost no time. You can get the driver you need by going to Canon: (…)You will need to do this because the CD that ships with the printer is for Windows.
HOWEVER, if I had it to do again, I would try things in a different order because those first steps were pretty useless if your ultimate goal is to connect it wirelessly. I mean, go ahead and download those drivers because you will need them later, but don’t bother doing much else with that installation package. Install them and move on to downloading the network setup tool. The user manual will direct you to a network setup tool and you’re all, “Oh great. This is too easy. No problem.” Except, that network setup tool is no where to be found. It wasn’t downloaded with the drivers that I referenced above, downloaded from Canon link. So then I tried the manual route using Mac OS Terminal and….OMG KILL ME NOW. I am just not savvy enough to talk to computers in the true language they love, whatever the hell that is. I know it’s not MS DOS for Mac. Unix or some s***? I don’t know, but I don’t speak it. I got a few steps in but couldn’t make it work for me. So when the manual tells you to go that route, I wouldn’t unless you are a computer geek who knows what they’re doing. Anyway, I digress. I FINALLY Googled my little heart out until I found where I could download the “Canon MF/LBP Network Setup Tool”. That link is here:
(…)
Once I had that software, things got much easier. Well, actually I locked myself out of my WiFi connection first but hey, that’s another story. Sanity was restored and I got back to the WiFi installation of the printer. I was not beaten yet. Once you click on the setup tool icon, you will be walked through the steps which, praise Jesus, that’s what I was after all along!! A wizard! I selected wireless LAN connection and that yes, I did want to configure network settings. I chose ‘easy setup’ because…really? But then, THEN, if only I had lied and said that my wireless LAN access point does NOT have a WPS button. Originally I did not do that and that’s what knocked me out of my wifi router. Once I selected the second choice on the right (see photo), things were sailing. You should just be able to follow the steps from here and be good to go. It allows you to unplug the USB cable and it was in this part of the process that my computer finally hooked up wirelessly to the printer. You will know you are connected when that little blue WiFi light on the printer stays lit up. I was then able to go into system preferences and add printer and then Bonjour found the software for me. Now, did it find it online and download it or did it find it already downloaded on my computer from earlier? I don’t know, but it lets you look through a list and it’s there, Canon LBP 6030. If you already added printer using wired connection, as I did, I had to remove it and then add the wireless version.
I know I’m kind of rambling, but I still hope this helps someone like me. It sure would’ve helped me because finding the right information was TOUGH. Oh, and I have a Mac with El Capitan OS.
As for the printer itself, barely used it yet. But it prints fast and I LOVE the small footprint of it. Plus it’s almost white and blends in a lot nicer on our new white desk. Oh, the vanity!!

The media could not be loaded.
After 4 monthsof purchasing, The only drawback of this printer is that it takes commands very late from the window laptop and when printing in bulk then printed pages gets mixed up due to curling of pages

Beware, if you don’t have a cd reader on your laptop like me look forward to a hour on phone with support setting it up.

This printer is incredibly finicky. I am using this printer for making foil art prints and notebook covers. I have made ~200 prints already on this same size paper without much issue. Yesterday I made 30 prints on 60# cardstock which the description of this item says it can handle, and which all of the aforementioned prints were on. After foiling them, I attempted to feed them back through for their second layer. Half of them printed before the printer began to jam. Now this printer will not print on any black paper for some reason, so I can’t finish my prints, all of which already have a layer of foil – so I wasted 3 rolls of gold foil, because I can’t get them to feed back through to get the second layer printed. I thought maybe going through the printer and then through the laminator was maybe affecting it (warping it in some way that the printer didn’t like) so I tried doing a new print on brand new blank paper – nope. Jamming all the time. I tried printing on a different color paper, and it feeds and prints fine. Switch back to the black paper, same deal again – jam. It’s hard to believe I am doing something incorrectly when it’s already done so many successful prints, on this same paper, and is continuing to print on other colored paper. It has done this quite a few times since I’ve gotten it and there doesn’t seem to be any way to fix it, it either just works or it doesn’t. I’m super confused as to why in the middle of a job it would suddenly stop accepting paper and jamming with no change of settings or change of media. Canon support is a joke. Forums only, which are never helpful or to the level of speed that I need. I have a large job I need to complete by next weekend and now I’m nervous I won’t be able to fulfill it. I think I will be shopping around for a new printer, unfortunately I can no longer return this one.

I’m a IT and took over an hour to get this printer working.
**Even following the instructions on the manual didn’t include the piece of orange plastic that you had to take out that was inside the printer to get the toner to read** – Key information for people having problems with this printer. (Take out the toner first, and then there should be a orange plastic there that blocks it from reading).
I had to connect the USB to the back of my desktop in order for it to read correctly and the supplied USB cable is hilariously too short, so make sure you use a (high quality) USB extender that will carry enough power and won’t corrupt the data signal (like those china ones).
You won’t need the CD nor will you need download the drivers if you have internet connection (Im using Windows 10, but Windows 7 and up has automatic driver downloads as soon as you plug in the USB). Don’t change any print settings on the driver cause this seem to make the printer upset too. But you can test and see what works out. If the printer starts acting up cause you change the settings on the driver you can use device manager to uninstall it and reinstall a fresh one that is unmodified.
Last but not least…the wireless printing doesn’t work. Like at all. I follow the instructions on the official Canon website and use the Network_Setting_Tool in the official driver package to enable wireless and connect to my WPS (as well as manual connect). No dice. Printer just don’t wanna connect to wireless. So forget about any AirPrinting what so ever, its not gonna do it.
Best thing about this printer is that it was apparently on sale for $99 and it used toner (toner does not dry out like those silly ink cartridge’s which WILL if you don’t use it all up fast enough, which most home user don’t). It also printers extremely fast, a whole page comes smoothly through the motor without delay, I would guess about 1 page per ~1.50s but don’t quote me on that I didn’t use a timer.
And my main reason for buying, it has aftermarket toners that is 1/3 the price when you do have to replace it which will bring down the operational cost drastically (again toners don’t dry out!). I got a toner printer because I don’t print enough, so that might not even matter anyway. I just don’t want my ink drying out like every other ink cartridge printer I had.
With all that said, at the time of purchase there was a toner printer that was slightly cheaper and I would have gotten that instead knowing the difficulties I had with this printer. I bought it because it was Canon, but this one is definitely one of the jankier ones.
