Kenstar Double Cool Dx Air Cooler with Trolley (White) – 50L

Since my wife is uncomfortable with AC, I was on the lookout for a good air cooler( I sacrificed my comfort for her and why do we men have to suffer all the time 😀 :D) , which could beat the summer heat of Hyderabad, and was “review hunting”, for over a month. It was really painful and I couldn’t zero in on any products. The more I read the reviews the more I got confused. Kenstar Double Cool Dx had decent reviews so I decided to take a leap of faith. I’ve been using it for 10 days. So far so good. I’ll list out the Pros and Cons as usual in all my reviews

CONS:
1. Does its job well-
Of course yes, a cooler’s job is to cool the room and this cooler does its job well and will never leave room for disappointment. I’m not a cooler person and don’t have a lot of experience with it but still, I’ve a fair amount of experience with coolers and found out this particular product is doing better than the others I came across. Turn it on and instantly you can feel the cool breeze caressing you all over your body 😛 ( don’t get confused and think that you are being caressed by your wife or girlfriend it is just the cool air coming out of your cooler)

2. Air Throw-
The product description says the effective air throw range is 35 ft. I can’t validate that but I can validate that it has a very nice air throw. It’s best suited for halls or big bedrooms. For my small bedroom it’s an overkill but still “I’m loving it”.

3. Cooling Media-
All the buying guides said honeycomb is a better cooling medium. This product uses Wood Wool and trust me, people I didn’t find much of a difference here( I checked it with my friend’s cooler which uses honeycomb), maybe my untrained eye couldn’t spot any difference. The cooling pads are sturdy and are nicely tucked into the side panels. I believe it will last.

4. Dedicated water inlet:
There is a dedicated water inlet to connect it with a hose. This is a nice addition since it will eliminate the need for manually filling your cooler and thus reduce the risk of your cooler’s water pump getting blown off by running dry. A point to be noted here is that the practicality of such a feature when you use it inside your room. Connecting the hose might be an issue.

CONS:

1. Average build quality:
Nothing to boast about here. This product’s build quality is just average. In some areas it’s flimsy. Side panels are decent. The top portion is decent as well. Apart from that, cost cutting is evident in other areas.

2. Flimsy speed and swing control knob:
The knobs are pretty much flimsy and you got to turn it gently( don’t turn it right after a fight with your- wife/husband/gf/bf or someone for that matter), lest you should break it.
3. Speed control Knob starts with high:
You need to turn it clockwise from the off position to turn it on and right after the Off, it’s followed by High>Med>Low(refer the pics attached). For small rooms we all will be content with low, even low is very high. To reach Low we need to turn the knob 3 times clockwise and to turn off again 3 times anticlockwise. Given the flimsy nature of the Knob, it’s unwanted pressure on the knob. I consider this a design flaw.

4. Difficult to differentiate between Speed Control and Swing:
Both the controls are placed adjacent to each other and at the beginning, you might get confused with the knobs. It needs some getting used to. This is not a deal breaker or a great flaw.

For now, I could come up with only this. I’ll update this review after few weeks or if something comes up. I hope this will help you make a decision.

Some points to be noted before buying
>>This is a desert cooler( more than 40L capacity), so the air throw is high and it is pretty loud. For a small room it might be an overkill so please be mindful of your room size and need.
>> Water inside the tank might not last more than 24 hours( I didn’t test it extensively) an 8-10 hours usage brought down the needle from almost full to half. So it’s safe to assume that a full tank might not last more than 24 hrs.
>>Eventhough we all know coolers are best suited for areas with low humidity, still I wanted to remind you all. Keep this in mind before buying
>> Don’t forget to keep your windows and door open for cross-ventilation ( not wide open though)
>>Check with your local stores before buying from Amazon. The price here in Amazon fluctuates a lot. And the seller who sells it at the lowest price doesn’t have very good feedback.
