PREMKUMAR DEVARAJ –
Firstly the battery is really heavy. I does need two person to transport it. I live in 1st floor without a lift provision. But luckily the seller (Mohitha Battery House) directly visited himself. Packaging was decent even with such a heavy loaded products.
He appears very knowledgeable in what he sells and installs. Also, he walked me through the entire process on the installation as he completed it and answered to all the questions to my satisfaction, especially with the spillage of battery liquid during transportation and the different caps that we have for the battery’s liquid compartments (transportation and floatation caps).
Inverter too is a bit heavy but not too much. Since the seller contacted me well in advance before visiting my home, I also had a chance to check with him for couple of other products too (a battery for my car and a trolley case for the inverter battery). As I have a plan for future expansion of adding another battery, had bought a trolley that can accommodate two batteries – which cost me 2k extra.
He was very careful with the equipments during the entire installation process – be it the inverter or installing battery in my car. He also went ahead and helped with a couple of electrical setup too.
As for the inverter itself, it is a pure sine wave model, has a load bearing capacity of 1100 wattage and has five loud beeps when it switches into backup mode. Since I have a 5 month old kid at home, a power cut at 2am might definitely make our nights even more sleepless as I think that the beeps, for sure, might wake up the kid. We will be able to use solar panel too along with this inverter, which will require an additional charging setup.
Inverter is equipped with battery selector switch (to work with different battery types tall tubular, smf etc) and works in two modes – ECO and UPS. These modes are said to have difference in the switching time and working supply voltage range. I felt no difference in the switching time between the two modes. Probably it was too quick to identify. The seller also mentioned that UPS mode works best if the inverter is being used along with power sensitive equipments and where the equipments shouldn’t go out of power even for a fraction of a second. For a home these modes might not make a difference.
The 150ah battery is supposedly expected to provide 12-15 hours of backup with two fans of 80watt each and 3 led tubelight of 20watt each.
This inverter can support another battery as well. Eventhough it doubles up the backup time, it has a pitfall of doubling up of charging time as well. I am told that it takes 8 hours to charge the battery from 0 to 100%. Since this being a 12v inverter we will have to connect another battery in parallel to the existing. It is recommended to have the next battery of the same AH rating.
Even a 500 watt mixer was able run, but the lights started flickering when running the mixer. It’s best to avoid keeping the lights on when in need to do a quick mixie run.
Coming to the battery, it is 36 + 24 months warranty – which means 36months of full replacement and 24months of pro-rated replacement. After 36months, value of the battery starts to decline and while replacing after 36months there we will have to pay a certain percentage to get a new battery even though it is under warranty. Anyone who already owned a battery either in a bike or cat might be able to understand about this type of warranty. If not, please enquire with a local battery dealer about this type of warranty coverage.
I’m waiting for a full power shutdown during summer which would actually reveal the true potential. Will update if I get to it.
