I purchased this oven about a month ago with special consideration for its rotisserie attachment. I have not tried rotisserie recipes yet but whatever food I did make in this oven have come out very satisfying and as expected.

The heating elements are found as parallel set of rods, two each on top and bottom. The thermostat is ranged from 100 to 250 and feels smooth but the mode selection knob feels tacky which is OK and not to be considered a problem. The timer knob is ranged from 0-60 minutes but its spring only activates near the 10 mark, meaning it is not accurate below 10minutes. However it comes with a “Stay on” mode where the timer can be bypassed.

The accessories include a drip tray, a crumb tray(the regular baking tray), 4 steel skewers, 1 rotisserie rod with prongs and wire frame. The rotisserie function seems quite silent when test run unloaded.

The only problem I could spot is that the shelving notches are not uniformly placed with respect to the rods. The middle shelf is actually closer to the bottom heating element which can overheat the baking tray and char the food. To resolve this problem, the drip tray must be placed on a notch directly above the bottom heating element to disperse heat.

There are 5 modes in this model: Keep warm(lightly activates the top element), Broil mode(thermostat controlled top element), Rotisserie mode(thermostat controlled top element with rotisserie motor ON), Bake mode(thermostat controlled bottom element along with lightly activated top element), Toast mode(thermostat controlled both elements).

The manual maintains that the oven must be preheated for at least 10 minutes before use in Toast mode at 250 C. But I find it unnecessary since you can follow what is prescribed in the recipe book. If it simply asks to preheat your oven then do that trick. While using Keep warm function, the food to be preheated must be kept in the lower most tray position. But don’t expect it to preheat like a microwave. I find this option to be highly suitable for making Aam papads and fruit leathers.

Overall, I find this product from Morphy Richards satisfying and easy to use

the oven worked well initially but then slowly heating capacity decreased. the nobs fell off and the baking items didn’t turn out well anymore until i realised the maximum temperature reached no more than 180 anymore. then an odyssee began. customer service promised to take care, ordered some spare part. it took about 2 months until we got hold of this man again and by the time he finally picked up the oven it was about 3 months. it took a us several phonecalls to get him to return the repaired oven. and the worst part – it was heating less than before! perhaps 120 or so. the replaced nobs were also in different positions. we paid rs 1000 for repair and got a worse product than before. the local service person is not answering our request anymore. now finally the company itself promised to send it to a bigger town. we hope that makes the oven useable again. if not we won’t be able to recommend this company anymore.

update:even after the service in a bigger town the oven was not heating well anymore. besides that we were promised to get our money back for the service that showed no improvement but neither this ever happened. so, unfortunately i do not recommend buying this brand anymore.

I received my Morphy Richards oven within 24 hrs. of placing the order with all the accessories and in perfect condition on 4th September 2016.
Hats off to Amazon for its amazing delivery service.

As for the product itself – I had the same model previously for 8 years until it broke down last month and I decided to buy a new one rather than try to get the old one serviced. Since I use my oven only for baking purposes and not for heating and cooking, I went in for the same OTG model. I am not a professional baker but a self-taught one.

In my opinion this oven does a really good job. Family and friends have always complimented the baking quality.
    Pros:
    1. Pricing along with the Amazon offer was attractive.
    2. Can comfortably bake for 5 to 6 persons.
    3. Cakes, breads, breadsticks, cupcakes, etc. come out beautifully.

Some drawbacks that other users have complained about and how to overcome them:
    1. Yes! it gets very hot externally when the oven is ON. Make sure you keep wires, cloth, body parts, etc. away (I have learnt it the hard way over a period and with a few burns). Handle the oven like a hot tawa without handle, be careful.
    2. People have complained about the lack of lighting inside. Again, with a well-lit kitchen, I have managed to overcome the problem.
    3. Get familiar with your oven first. Always bake something simple or something you are an expert in, the first time. If you are a first-time baker, please stick to something simple like a basic sponge cake. Bake a small quantity and get familiar with your temperature settings. In spite of buying the same model, my new oven had a different temperature calibration. For example – for sponge cake in my older oven I had to set it for 175 degrees, whereas in my new one I have to set it at 185 degrees. Please don’t bake in a hurry the first few times. Be close by and keep an eye on the baking – for example, the cake should not start browning before 12 -15 mins. If it does, reduce the settings so that it can cook properly inside. Once you get comfortable, you can just set the time and temperature and enjoy the baking.
    4. Yes, the tray is not flat, it is good for draining excess oil/fat, but a nuisance for baking. So on my grilled tray I put an aluminum foil and convert it into a flat surface. This works beautifully for cookies, breadsticks, braided loaf or round loaf breads etc.
    5. Remember – many a time the temperature and the time mentioned in the recipes may not work for this model because this oven is smaller as compared to the huge cooking ranges available abroad. So just get familiar with your oven and you will be fine.
    6. I never had to deal with after sales service because when it broke down after 8 years I bought a new one. So can’t comment.

Why did I go for this oven in spite of its shortcomings?
I bake a lot and Convection ovens are the best for baking. In this price range and size I did not find any other attractive options.
