My Wi-Fi router wasn’t quite reaching back into my bedroom, which is across the house, so I bought this extender. The first one I bought came with instructions that weren’t very clear so I resorted to online tech support. I managed to get it hooked up via my laptop and it worked great…for about a day. Then it just stopped working all together. I did a factory reset, I did every online troubleshooting you can think of and no avail. I had to reset both my modem and router to fix my internet issue. So I bought a second one, thinking maybe I had received a dud originally.
Here’s we’re the set-up comes into play. Both my modem and router are NETGEAR and use the Nighthawk app and so does this extender. I discovered while resetting my router that I can add the extender as well. The instructions they give you in the box: toss them! Download the Nighthawk app, tap the three lines on the top left-hand corner, tap ‘set up a new nighthawk system’ and select ‘range extender’. It walks you through everything else very easily. So far everything is running smoothly and functioning properly. If anything changes I’ll update my review

Easy to install, manage from an app, easy to check on to see if it’s working correctly. Netgear has always been a brand to trust. Great signal too!

Reading the other reviews, I assumed to not read the directions included and to use the app. I did that and it wouldn’t set up, then I search the official site for directions, which were different from the included directions and the app direction and suddenly it worked.
I have a few issues, like devices that move wiil sometimes connect to the extender when the router has a better signal or it will take a long time to switch from the extender. It’s like the modem is happy and easy to pass the signal but the extender will hold on for dear life even when the connection becomes suboptimal. It does, however, work as advertised. It extends wifi connections to areas that are far from the modem for a better connection and helps get better coverage.

Agree with everything Kate65 had to say. Not plug and play! I did the plug and play and totally screwed up my old network. Lost all internet. I am competent enough to follow the instructions and setup most things electronic. But not this. I had to call in the cavalry to fix what netgear broke. I had the internet service provider come out and check their internet. It couldnt have been the mesh setup because I followed all the prompts. Nope, not their system, it was the router messed up by the mesh setup. Luckily, a family member is in the IT business and was able to come over the same time as the service guy. All in all, 5 hours to fix what the “plug and no-play” broke! Required a factory reset and total new setup, name, etc. It seems to be working now. But like Kate65 said, it is no better than the cheaper extender I bought a few years ago that I did set up myself without a problem.

I purchased this because my WiFi security cameras weren’t getting good signal from my router — I’m above-average with technology and was able to install this extender on my existing Netgear Nighthawk Router and Modem via the app on my smartphone in about 5 minutes. It improved the signal on my existing networks, which is nice as some signal extenders only add another network instead of boosting existing networks/SSIDs.
My only complaint is that the signal wasn’t as strong as I expected in some areas of my home, but overall it accomplished what I needed it to do and I’m happy with the product.
Personally I think this is most useful if you already have existing Netgear equipment that it can seamlessly integrate with.
