I’ve had these for a short time and will update when they’re truly run in.
Sound wise These are not a combination of the best attributes of other 600 series headphones but have an independent sound of their own. They take a long time to loosen up sonically but when they do the lower registers are solid and defined – convincing without sounding forced. Don’t get me wrong – if you love tub thumping bass these cans are not for you. If on the other hand if you are looking for realism and detail, texture where you can close your eyes visualize where each drum is in the set then these will put a smile on your face. The same is true for the high frequencies. It’s quality over quantity here, but such finesse for what is a sub £500 headphone. The mid frequency ‘vocal’ range is where all the 600 series shine but with the 660S this isn’t too forward a presentation.
For open headphones the soundstage isn’t that wide but then again not as confined as some might suggest. Imaging and placement is very well defined even by Sennheiser standards. Basically these headphones excel in more areas and with fewer compromises that any of the previous models in the range. They are reasonably sensitive and don’t present too dificult a load so go plenty loud enough from just about any source. That said you can really reap the benefits of a dedicated headphone amp with the HD660S, and they reward your investment in that department. I’ve marked them down for comfort as they’ve yet to loosen up the clamping force against my ears – which for me is a little tight. And at €450 its impossible to give them 5 stars for value – not when the much cheaper new HD560S can be had for 1/3rd of the price – now they are a real bargain!

If you are looking for noise cancellation then this is not the headphone you’ll want to buy However if sound is your preference then this is the right product
I started with Bose QC 35 then Audio Technica and now finally the Sennheiser HD660S. With just 150 Ohms it can be easily driven by a smart phone however I’ll recommend a DAC for optimum output. My suggestion Fiio BTR5 as this also has a 2.5mm balanced output. The HD 660s also come with a pentaconn cable.
I’ll end by saying this is the best headphone for home listening and for travelling I’ll suggest Audio technica ATHMx50
On sound Quality of the HD 660s good low’s the BASS is decent not too overpowering and the Mid ‘s being excellent in its class, the vocals are awesome, on the high’s it’s good.
The sound-stage is wide with fantastic imaging.
The only CON that I see is the length of the cables it comes with are very long. Would have been better if there was a 3-4 ft cable as well.

I bought this headphone after hearing a demo at one of the audio stores in my city. Having used its predecessor the HD 650, my reference standard, for over a decade I thought it was time for an ‘upgrade’. Recall the HD 600 and 650 are pretty long in the tooth introduced in 1997 and 2003/04 respectively.
The first thing that strikes you the the subtle design change gone is the lacquered plastic headband and driver assembly. This one is black and sometimes feels a bit tacky as if belonged to a cheaper headphone set. That said, the construction quality is at par with previous HD 600 & 650 series
Put on the headphones and plug it into your amplifier and then the fun begins. Gone is the Sennheiser veil and the sound is nice and punchy making the 660s distinctly different from its immediate predecessor. The treble is boosted ever so slightly giving the sound a feeling of liveliness, the mid range is extended and the bass response very quick.
If you like rock and pop I’d say these are a better option than the HD 650s. However, the sound does not cause listener fatigue and one can wear the headphones for hours on end. The clamping force is high when new but eases off when you use it. To summarise:
a) 150 Ohm impedance makes it easier to drive by consumer mobile electronics like mobiles/tablets though they don’t sound much louder compared to their 300 Ohm predecessor
b) Lively sound, the Sennheiser veil isn’t so prominent anymore in the vocals. Ideal for pop and rock music. Even EDM or trance.
c) The set includes a 4.4 mm “Pentacon” TRRS balanced cable, not much use unless you have a balanced output on your amp. This 4.4 mm connector is primarily found on Sennheiser headphone amps. You will need adapters to connect it to 2.5 mm balanced outputs.
d) Shares some parts i.e. ear pads, headband cushion, standard cable with previous generation HD 6×0 headphones. An advantage at least in my case.
In a nutshell – this headphone set is a keeper and will likely become a legend just like its predecessors. You can’t get better audiophile grade headphones in this price range. Highly recommended because this one suits all genres of music in a manner that is livelier (but not in-your-face) than the HD 650. Brought a smile to my face.
One more thing, new batches of the HD 660s are made in Romania not Ireland as before.

Let me start off by stating that I own the Sennheiser 600’s too.
And this headphone isn’t that.
The 600 is a very Audiophile quality headphone.
This version is more a 50% Audiophile 50% enjoyment headphone!
An Audiophile headphone is flat and VERY detailed! 3D, pretty much as close as possible to actually being there in the studio. At least that’s what an Audiophile looks for.
The 660S isn’t flat. Pretty detailed but the bass is bumped up a notch or two.
This headphone is more enjoyable for the “Normal” person. Like I said, it’s very detailed. You will hear sounds from your previous favorite tracks that you’ve never heard on other cheaper headphone/Earbuds. Ticks, taps clicks, clings and so on, lol!
Pretty much your music is now High Quality!
And you will be able to tell with these!
The 660S are open back. Meaning you can easily hear other sounds around you. Someone speaking to you or a television in the background. It’ll ruin your music experience. You need to be in a quiet room or away from others. If you mind?
They aren’t closed such as a traditional headphone that we’ve all pretty much are accustomed to. The open back assist with the awesome sound! Giving it a more open airy sound. Not a HUGE sound stage so don’t get me wrong. Not like an 800 Sennheiser! Lol
The 660S headphones that go over/around your ear are very comfortable! I have a big head and they feel light and comfy!
The clamp around the ears isn’t bad for me. I can move my head aggressively and they don’t slide off. But they aren’t clamped on with a lot of pressure either. They’re perfect!
The cord that it comes with is pretty long! Not many are fans of. If you wanna just connect to your phone and move around your house jamming out? These aren’t for ya, lol
At least the cord that it comes with isn’t. This headphone follows after the 600’s. Which are meant to be experienced at home. Connected to a high def device. In which you are given plenty of cord so you can sit down with comfort! Unlike other headphones where you move around and you end up yanking the headphone accidently or however. These are not mobile Headphones. But these do not require Hi-Def. Devices! That’s the cool thing about these compared to the 600’s.
The 600’s require a lot of power and clean power and a VERY good Dac for ultimate Nirvana sound!
Pretty much you need to put in a lot of money towards your investment with the 600’s!
These 660S’s you don’t. An Audiophile on a budget can easily enjoy these!
A simple headphone connection and you can enjoy these without wondering what else can you attach to obtain it’s optimum sound!
Of coarse, it is 50% Audiophile grade so use the highest quality connections you can with these! The better and cleaner the better the 660S will perform!
But don’t stress!
They are 50% relax and enjoy type of headphone! And in my opinion, they are AWESOME! 😉👍👍👍
Plus with some extras, true Audiophile grade headphones provide!
If you’re looking for a Pro, flat Audiophile sound? These will not satisfy.
The 600’s will.
If you’re someone who enjoys good quality music but don’t want that really flat tuning. And don’t or cant really obtain expensive devices to enjoy them? These are for you.
They are awesome!
I haven’t used the Balanced cord on them. So I can’t write my opinion on that.
Sennheiser, keep it up, you guys are AWESOME!
For those that haven’t tried out a Sennheiser headphone yet? Do it. Give them a try!
Sennheiser doesn’t flake out on premium sound! They are ALL about it!
Plus, with Amazon you can always return them if you aren’t a fan of them for any reason!
30 days I believe?
Enjoy!
I know I am!

I normally listen to electronic music such as deep house, techno, progressive from artists like Guy J, Cid Inc, Sasha, John Digweed, Above & Beyond on HD 8 DJ but as you found I started listening to classic AR Rehman, Pritam Bollywood songs on HD 660S due to its great vocal and mid-range separation and accuracy. Just listen to A.R. Rahman – You can hear every mixed vocal is detailed and separately with pinpoint dimension.

These are the best Audiophile headphones below 40k in india. The best a hi-fi enthusiast can buy and still save some money for buying either a good headphone amplifier or a Digital audio player (DAP). I use the FiiO M11 Pro DAP which has the THX AAA-78*2 amp. This is the THX amp for music. This DAP and headphone combination is a match made in heaven. These headphones have clean bass, which is punchy without any unnecessary rumble or boom. The mids and vocals are clear and with a lot of body or weight. Imaging on these is just out of this world.
These are even better than earlier models namely the sennheiser HD650 AND HD600. Many users at head fi forum either returned or sold their Sennheiser HD800S model after they took the demo of this model. You very well know the price of the sennheiser HD 800S. Its thrice the price of 660S. The sennheiser HD800S require a lot of EQ to sound to the level of an audiophile and need powerful amp’s to drive and still don’t sound as good as the Sennheiser HD 660S.
These are truly the ENDGAME headphones.
Shipping from seller was fast and i got these within 2 days. The item has 2 years warranty from sennheiser india.

One of the finest headsets in the industry! Everything does not look good though. I tried these at a store for an hour.
Comfort – All sennheisers from 599 onwards are extremely comfortable. This one is no exception.
Soundstage – one of the finest soundstages out there. Brilliant!
Pros
+ magnificent mids and highs. Its a pleasure listening to music
+ lows are well controlled and balanced but lack the punch
+ sound like a dream once connected to an Amp
Cons
– Bad quality of earcups. Now Sennheiser is suffering from this problem. People want headphones to last for a decade, at least
– they are open-back by design and thus sound leaks a lot. Its better to use them at home
– headband looks sturdy and much better than HD 600 but looking at my previous experience its not fool proof
– lows are well controlled but not pronounced, hiphop, trap, edm fans may look elsewhere
