UPDATE 3 months later: I’ve RMAd twice. ASUS Customer Support has been slow AF and a total pain in the ass & is not at all what they used to be for the past 20 years that I’ve been buying from them. This machine is exceedingly unstable and has had a host of OS-image related issues over the past 3 months. Their RMA process is f-d to hell and I’m extremely frustrated at this point with the brand. — I’m done buying from them until whatever tf they did to their brand gets fixed. The laptop sounds great on paper. It is utter trash and the most unreliable machine I’ve ever owned.
So far so good. I’ve only used the thing for a day but so far it seems pretty solid. It’s smaller and heavier (denser) than I thought it would be so it kind of weighs as much as my old ASUS laptop but in a smaller package. Probably because of the tablet function.
ALSO: Caution! The little SD card thing. The external case of the laptop and the actual slot are not in perfect alignment and there’s no stopper or guide in that slot to ensure that you’re inserting the card at exactly the right height. DO NOT just insert the card (even gently) into the slot and hope for the best. You really have to look in there and then aim — otherwise you end up with the card stuck between the plastic case and the actual slot for the card and you’ll have to use small needles to pull it back out and try again. — This isn’t a brute force thing. I’m rather cautious about everything especially at the beginning when I’m unfamiliar with the laptop. TBH, this is just poor design on that particular slot.
Screen is glossier than I thought. Likely because of the touchscreen function … but still glossier than other touchscreens like the Surface Pro. Glare & reflection will be annoying if you have windows or the sun behind you.
The FN lock is a little strange and I’m not used to having to switch between FN modes to adjust brightness and close browser tabs. I haven’t quite gotten the hang of it yet. I’m finding it to be more difficult than it should be.
Im not sure what the fluorescent color on the Enter key is for.
The power button on the side is much better than the previous versions with the power button next to the delete key. — although I have already accidentally hit it when picking up the laptop from the side.
The mobile phone sync & remote webcam function with MyASUS is really really nice. The UI is a little screwy but the functionality is great.
The latency in reestablishing wifi connection after coming out of sleep is quite a bit longer than my old ASUS. It seems like the wifi antenna is entirely disabled or something and it’s having to reset the whole thing or something before trying to reconnect … so it’s a good 30-60 seconds before it gets back online.
Otherwise, seems like a good laptop that I’ll be using for a long time. — TBH the SD slot thing is the most annoying thing i’ve found so far on this laptop because it feels like a design flaw. Everything else might just be getting used to this laptop.
