Researched and purchased for a student of mine. Pretty good specs for the price.

This laptop is a great computer for the price! It’s upgraded ram and hard drive are perfect for the mid level user. The AMD graphics card was surprisingly capable, I have always used NVIDIA and this ray zen performs just as good. The only downside to this computer as in other reviews where the shift key is an arrow keys they’re slightly awkward to get used to. Also the downward facing speakers are the worst part of this entire system you cannot hear them at all if you have the computer on your lap so if you’re going to purchase this computer I would recommend not doing it unless you are going to use headphones or external speakers. So the graphics card when you were using it start using a lot more power in storage than Nvidia in the stands or louder than I expected. But all in all it is a very good computer the price. The final drawback is the back light and keyboard it goes off after five seconds of non-typing then you have to hit some thing for it to come back on. The other hand the good parts about it or it is very easily upgraded very easy access to Graham the screen is amazing for the price you get the best quality resolution!!

I am no computer expert, but this review is pretty reliable. I had a MacBook Air for a few months, it was my first laptop. But I started college and I have been told that I should get a Windows laptop because, as an engineering major, I will encounter a lot of programs that are not compatible with MacOS. Anyways, I browsed the internet and I ended up buying this one – Acer Aspire 5. Before buying it, I watched countless reviews on Youtube, and read many on here. Some were positive, and some others, very negative. But I still ordered it. So far, I am really satisfied with my purchase. This is exactly what I wanted. The storage, graphics, performance, etc… everything meets my standards. This laptop is VERY fast, AND despite all the negative comments about gaming on this laptop, I actually game on this laptop very smoothly. I bought a controller, and I game on this laptop as if it were a gaming laptop. I play Modern Warfare on a daily basis. No overheating. It just works fine! I also tried Asphalt, and it worked Great. The Graphics were astonishing! And I tried Fortnite, and it works fine. You could even get the best performance out of it on lower settings. This is to explain how fast it is, and how good the graphics are. So I should have no issues at all running graphics-demanding apps for engineering, like CAD, inventor, etc… AMD is so underrated and I do not regret choosing it over intel. The keyboard is backlit, as mentioned, and it is of very good quality. I type by muscle memory and the keyboard feels very comfortable. I actually like it better than my macbook air. The screen display is so amazing. I really have no real complaints at all. The only thing is that the fans get a little loud, and I feel like I only notice it because I’ve been using my MacBook air recently and it is very quiet. I might need some time to get used to the fan of this Acer Aspire 5. This is amazing. Thank you!! I do not regret my money.
Update: I played Rocket League on it. It was very smooth. I also played FIFA 17. No lag. Very high frames per second. And I used an HDMI cable to project the game to my TV. I am no hardcore gamer but I can tell you that Graphics-wise, I notice no difference between my Acer Aspire 5 and the PS4. The FPS drops slightly when there is strong focus on players, like when they score goals and replays, but that is normal with EA games.
I am very satisfied, though I would want a little more battery life than that… If something unexpected happens, I’ll let you know.

The price now is $70 more than what I paid for it 4 days ago. Not sure if it’s because the demand is so high or my price was an error.
It’s worth what I paid for it, $479. I don’t think it’s worth the current $549. There are plenty laptops out there with better processors and more RAM for that price.
I opted for 8gb’s of Ram and an additional 500GB HDD hard drive to go with the 128GB SDD.
So far everything is running smoothly. It booted up and connected to my wifi with no issues.
After going through the tedious Windows 10 set-up, the first thing I did was switch out of Windows 10s mode.
The description only mentioned Windows 10, not Windows 10s. Got rid of that garbage. It does come with a little paper giving you step-by-step directions on how to make the switch, so that’s a plus. If your kid will be using Google Classroom for their virtual learning, you’ll need to do this.
One major annoying flaw is there really isn’t a way to tell if the Numbers Lock key is on or not. There isn’t an indicator that lights up, so it’s a crap shoot. We all know how the screen flips out if you hit a number on the number pad and the Numbers Lock key isn’t on. And for some reason they decided to put the Numbers Lock key right next to the POWER button. This is a very poor design.
I’ve noticed the fan is a bit loud when it revs up during task. A minimal annoyance but it shouldn’t struggle.
After doing a test call with the camera and built in mic, I was told I came in crystal clear, great picture and sound. Another plus if your kid will be doing virtual learning this year.
I like that ACER doesn’t pack a bunch of garbage bloatware in their systems like HP. It’s not needed.
Overall, for the price I paid, it’s a nice simple budget system. The AMD Ryzen 3 processor is enough to do your daily light activities surfing the web or working on documents. Don’t expect to do any major online gaming.
If you can get it for under $500, do so.
