Too much reduction in the treble. Mid-range and bass are OK. Surprisingly not very power-hungry. Some say it has a similar sound signature to Sennehiser HD800S which I also own. I do not agree with this due to the treble weakness in the T1.

    Stunning pair of headphones.
The case for this pair of headphones is really big and made of suede. The quality of that case is impressive.
The quality of these headphones is beyond belief. Finally Beyerdynamic has hit it with this pair. I come from owning your everyday headphones such as beats (it was a gift I promise!) and several v-moda headphones.
The price quality ratio is high. You get what you pay for.
This pair of headphones was to be used for working out (yes you heard it right) and at home. Unfortunately it did not generate a loud enough sound when connected to a mobile device. So if you’re looking for a top notch/super high quality for any activity other than sitting at home connected to an amp, you should consider a different pair of headphones. This isn’t it.
The soundstage is phenomenal. You hear every single instrument. I finally get it. I get why audiophiles look for soundstage. My go to song is November Rain to test any headphones.
I highly recommend this pair if you intend to use these only at home connected to a sound system or an amp.

My first impression of these Headphones is “bassy”. Maybe a tad muffled. But these are “semi open”, which is to be expected. Closed headphones will have more bass, but sound muffled. Open backs will have clearer highs and mids with less pronounced bass. It’s how sound works. These sit somewhere in the middle. Which with how isolating closed backs can feel, and how “present” you feel in a room with open backs, having something in the middle can be welcome.

I’m someone who typically favors Sennheiser headphones. I started with the HD 598, and later upgraded to the HD 660S. Both open backs. I’ve used the HD 660S as my daily drivers. And I love them. They are super clear. Rock music is fun to listen to. They are sometimes too harsh with certain sounds. But they are great.

These are different sounding. And the difference is somewhat jarring at first. But it grows on you (or it did for me). It packs more of a punch in the lows, and with certain music there is more… “body”. I hate to describe it like that. It’s so subjective.

I wanted a pair of close backs to complement my HD 660S, but I dislike the feeling of being completely closed off. That was the selling point of the T1.2 for me being semi-open. And I wanted something that sounds a little less harsh (or raw may be a better word), which is typical of the “Sennheiser sound”.

I love them both. I did not get the HD 800S because I didn’t want “more of the same, but better”. And currently with the T1.3 out and the T1.2 being cheaper, the HD 800S are twice the price.

Now for the biggest con to these headphones… the cable is terrible. I don’t mean in how it sounds. I mean it coils up (forms loops ) up and down the cable. I have straightened this thing out over and over again. Made sure it wasn’t twisted in any way. I have never had a braided cable do this. I’m hoping it will get better with use, but at this point I’m considering an aftermarket custom cable.

Will you love or hate these? It depends. It’s all subjective. Different folks like different styles of music, and each person likes how that music sounds with different circumstances. The biggest thing to consider is “can my amp drive these”, and then you just need to try them out and judge for yourself.

I really like Beyerdynamic’s audio presentations. I started with the DT990’s and got hooked on their sound which started a journey from the Amiron Home, DT 1990 and now the T1 2nd. I have also had or have multiple headphones from Grado, AKG, Hifiman, Sennheiser and a few others. Most I have sold off but was never able to pass off the Beyerdynamic’s. Any of the Amiron, DT1990 or T1 can easily be a end game headphone. I currently also have an HD800s. The T1 does not perform better than the HD800s. I consider it just as good but with a different audio reproduction. For most, this would come down to personal preference and the type of music you listen to. While the HD800s has a wider sound stage, it is a little diffuse at times. The T1 has a perfect balance of sound stage and imaging. The sound stage also seems to be deeper than the HD800s but not quite as wide. I find it easier to focus on separate details with the T1 than with the HD800s. I tend to gravitate to the HD800s for instrumental mixes. It is especially good for cinema soundtracks such as Jerry Goldsmith but not quite as enjoyable with studio mixes. The T1 on the other hand, works equally well with either type of music making it the more versatile of the two. The main downside to the T1 however is that for it to perform as intended to, you really need a good powerful amp. I have seen the T1 2nd compared to the Amiron and refereed to as the more affordable alternative. This is not far off from my impressions. If you are familiar with the Amiron Home, then you can form an idea of the T1 2nd. The T1 sounds similar but does improve on the clarity, sound stage and imaging by a noticeable margin but not vastly different with similar tone characteristics. While the Amiron at 250 ohm should have good amplification, the T1 at 600 ohm does really need good amplification to reach it’s pinnacle even more so than the HD800s. I currently have the Beyerdynamic A20 headphone amp which works very well as a match to the T1 power requirements and even that amp seems to be slightly less powering than what the T1 wants or is capable of. As most enthusiasts do not intend to foolishly buy many headphones such as myself, I can use my experience to say that you could purchase a T1 2nd and be rest assured that you have an end game headphone that will perform as good as money can buy regardless of price.
Update: These headphones were made for tube amps. I have upgraded headphone amps and currently use a Woo Audio Fireflies with tube upgrade. I completely bypass built in DAC which is OK but not great. Use a Schiit Bifrost. Extraordinary performance. warm, dynamic, holographic and the hot lower treble these can produce is tamed perfectly. Also has the proper power to drive the 600 ohm correctly. If you have a set of these, try it on tubes.

    Best headphones I’ve ever owned.
But I do feel my Sennheiser HD 6XX sits more comfortably on my head compared to these T1’s.
Natural sounding, crisp and clear this product screams quality all over.
