DECEMBER 2018 UPDATE: holding up great to daily abuse. Been using it for everything from making fried eggs to reheating chapatis and it works like a charm. Kudos to Havells. Nonstick coating has held up well. Only three issues. The plates are still a pain to clean and being able to remove them for a complete mop down would’ve been a blessing. Regardless of that this thing is a tank and I would recommend anyone looking for a panini press to blindly buy this one!

Great grill. Other reviewers have commented that it’s fragile, but I don’t think so.
It heats up super fast and has been working well for the last week or so.
The timer helps a lot for fuss free cooking. Once you have determined the time needed to cook a certain food, just set the timer and forget it the next time.
Positive aspects: floating hinge, hinge lock, built in dripping collection tray, in-built tilting mechanism to guide the drippings, non stick grill surfaces, broad range of temperature and the built-in timer. Another positive is the wider availability of Havells service. Kent is the only other grill maker with a comparable support infrastructure.
Negative aspects: 15A plug socket, short wire, non-detachable grill plates.

Havells could have easily included detachable plates and added a griddle function. In fact, the tiny manual that comes with the grill mentions that the grill plates are dishwasher safe, while the rest of the machine will need to be wiped down. But no guidance has been given on how to remove the plates for washing.
Will update later with photos and comment on the longevity of the non stick coating on the grill plates.

Very useful.

The piece I received had few scratches on steel finish giving an old piece looks. The both the grill faces were fouling with each other when lid being closed. On checking one of the spring on the right side missing. Service Center unable to resolve, case escalated resolution provided for replacement however awaited even after 40 days. Cord length is less should have been little more by 50cms. Temperature control ok.
