Oh Linksys what have you done?

All Linksys Mesh systems work with older technology until you get to this one. The product is quicker to set up than older versions but when you try and add an old node you discover in the small print that this is not backward compatible even with other Wifi 6 nodes …. This is going back.

We ordered the Linksys mesh wifii system to replace our current systems which plug into the mains outlet but reduce our power points in the home. The linksy’s system is a couple of upgrades from our old system and has sped up our internet connection and download speed. I personally don’t notice the improvements much, however my husband who is constantly downloading working documents and linking in to his work desktop has found that it has made working from home a lot quicker and easier. I also like that we can offer a guest wifi system.

The mesh routers are freestanding and can be tucked behind furniture/ objects, although this isn’t recommended. My husband advised that the system was mostly intuitive to set up, however he did have to watch you tube videos as the instructions were lacking a bit in the box. The systems took awhile to find each other and judging by his huffing was a bit frustrating to set up at times. However as soon as they were up and working it has been plain sailing ever since. At just under £500 this is a pricey system, but seems to be worth it if you rely on excellent internet speeds and connections.

I purchased the 3 units pack.
Unfortunately, the thickness of the walls and floors of my old house make signal quickly very weak, and I need to purchase a 4th unit; but there is no 4 units bundle available, and Linksys saying not able to give any discounted price to buy 3+1.

I was upgrading from Google nest WiFi which struggled to penetrate the brick walls in my house and led to painfully slow WiFi when my phone refused to switch between the closest WiFi points. Also having had the latest phone with 6e i wanted something that was going to be future proof.

There weren’t many reviews around in the UK site so i scoured US sites and ready others experience of the device and it did fill me with hope.

What can i say other this lives up to expectations. The main router and nodes were set up easily enough. One node didn’t connect properly and had to reset it and do it again but after that it was relatively plain sailing.

One observation i had was that the parental controls are not great unless you are prepared to subscribe to their subscription service. I got round this by setting my own dns settings to 1.1.1.1. However, the android app suggests that one click save browsing is being introduced soon, and this was verified by the help desk.

I did have one problem with the Internet. I have samsung soundbar, tv and projector but i couldn’t get them to see each other. After trying a few things like testing the router i decided to phone the helpline. As this is the latest flagship router, i had to have my case diverted to the dedicated helpline and received a can within 30 minutes. They helped me sort the issue out by changing some of the channels on the router and after doing that it sorted it and my devices saw one another and i could listen to sound via WiFi without any problem.
