2011年から愛用しています。
外ではwalkmanからPHA-1をアンプとして、ＳＨＵＲＥ ＳＥ425を使用。
家ではFOSTEX HP‐A8から本機、もしくはAKG Q701を使って音楽を聴いています。とはいえ、家では専らスピーカー（Ｂ＆Ｗ685旧モデルをマランツＰＭ８００５からバイワイヤ出力。ＤＡＣはＨＰ－Ａ８を共用）を使うことの方が多いのですが。
発売当初としては非常に優れたヘッドフォンだとは思いましたが、流石に年数も経ち、ハイレゾ対応というオカルトな謳い文句とともに、同一価格帯でも高音質のヘッドフォンは増えました。
モニター向けの音質なので、音の輪郭はキリッとしてます。経年とともに丸くなることもなく、悪く言えば窮屈な音。密閉型故音場の表現も狭く、ステレオという観点から見れば、素直に開放型を選んだ方が無難。長時間のリスニングは、はっきり言って疲れます。楽器の練習に使うという方は、なおのこと重さが気になるかと。
とにかく、音を解剖するタイプのヘッドフォンですね。楽器の音色に忠実というよりは、録音に忠実。ノイズまで真面目に再生するせいで粗悪な録音だと聞くに堪えない音になる一方で、ＰＣＭ録音の発展した最近の録音だとクリアに聴こえる傾向があります。
レコードなどのアナログ音源をコイツで高音質再生するには相当の出費が必要になりそう・・・・・・・だったら、いっそＳＴＡＸという選択肢もアリ？
音の傾向はフラットというよりはドンシャリだと思います（カマボコのＱ７０１が比較対象なのでよりそう感じるのかも）オープン型とは比較できないほど低音が出ます。
密閉型が良ければ、ＳＯＮＹのＭＤＲ－１Ａなんかは、解像度こそ本機に劣るものの、装着感の軽さや、モニタ用途を視野に入れているにしてはリスニング向けの調整も相まってオススメ。気軽に外に持ち出せるデザインのカッコよさも◎ 最近のＳＯＮＹのポータブルオーディオやヘッドフォンに対する力の入れようは目を見張るものがあります。
ただ、やはりヘッドフォンの楽しさは、簡単にとっかえひっかえ出来る点でして、密閉型スピーカーのようなキュッと締まるキレの良い低音と、高い解像度がピッタリと嵌る曲なんかでは、未だにＳＲＨ840を引っ張り出してます。
能率が良いためあまりアンプを選ばず、遮音性も高いので、無骨（な割にショボイ）見た目や重さを無視出来るなら外に持ち出すことも不可能ではないです。実際、何度も持ち出しました。（でも、外なら外部の雑音が多すぎるので結局はインイヤータイプの方が取り回し含めて便利だと思います）。
カールコードが鬱陶しくて一度だけリケーブルしたのが幸いにしたのかは解りませんが、断線は経験しておりません。しかし頭部のパッドはすっかりボロボロ・・・・・・
ヘッドフォンはどうしても消耗品になりがちなので、２万円で５年も頑張ってくれていると考えたら、安い買い物だったのかもしれませんね。
今後も、たまに引っ張り出して遊ぶと思います。欠点も多いですが、良い買い物でした。

The main reason for purchasing Shure SRH840 was that they neutral sounding headphones. These headphones do require some burn-in period to achieve they full potential. The headphone fit is nice albeit slightly heavy, but does provide good sound isolation.

I have owned ATH M40x, SoundMagic HP150, Brainwavz HM5, Sennheiser HD598 CS and Sennheiser HD380 pro. I must say that Shure 840 outbeats all of them. Every details are heard, overall sound spectrum is extremely well balanced. I strongly admit that this is one of the few headphone that lived up to it’s praise. It has a warm, smooth and detailed sound. I was slightly hesitant to buy these because some people mentioned it to be sibilant on bad recordings. It does create some sibilance on bad recordings but at least to me it was negligible(Mind you, my personal sound preference is Warm and detailed). I can definitely live with it. It wasn’t punishing the bad recordings as bad as ATH M40x did. The highs has good extension yet incredibly smooth. I don’t find them fatigue even upon extended listening. The only downside is the headband. The headband doesn’t feel fit/compact, it stretches out when you wear it. Maybe, it was designed to fit even large heads. Overall, Among the set of cans that I own I prefer hearing only these. I absolutely love these cans, I hear them everyday. Must buy for either monitoring or critical listening.

カールコードは重いので純正のストレートに交換しました。
重さも数段軽くなり、着用感も良くなって大幅に改善されました。
また、音質も(私好みに)数段良くなりました。
ストレートコードへの交換、お勧めです。

It’s just my first day of using these headphones and the leather cover covering the headband is peeling off.. have placed a request with the Amazon for replacing these damaged headphones with new ones..

Received my new pair within a week of placing my exchange request (thank you Amazon)
Comfort and build : they look too big when you wear them.. keeps falling when you bend your head down. Cannot wear for longer sessions.. ear pinna pains if you keep them on for longer hours.
Sound: highs are little harsh but decent and forgivable, mids are clear and detailed, you can even hear the vocal breath sounds of the singer as well, vocals are very distinct and clearly separated from the instruments and there is no mashup of vocals with instruments at all.
lows are tight and punchy, may not be for bass heads, soundstage is amazing for a closed pair, instrument separation and imaging is good.. overall an audiophile grade headphone..
My only concern is headphones keep falling down so you need to stabilize it by keeping your head still which often gives you a neckpain
Soundwise these are amazing audiophile grade headphones..

It is way better than the m50x. How?
1. No sibilance.
2. Better built quality, with far better earpads.
3. Mids is the biggest difference between these and the m50x. Mids on these sound very rich.
4. Bass is punchy not boomy. Overall sound quality is much better than the m50x.
Now to the review. Lets start with the cons.
1. I do not like the way wire comes out of each ear cup, making it a disaster waiting to happen. Shure should have integrated the wire in the headband like audio technica has.
2. Weight. These do feel heavy but not uncomfortable. Weight is a good sign of built quality but for something we wear, weight is a con.
3. No straight 3.5mm short wire provided. You get a lenghty coiled wire but it is impractical to use while listening from daps or any other portable device.
4. Cheap carry bag. Its pleather and it won’t last forever.
Pros-
1. Sound quality is way above your average bose beats and even some sennheiser. I do have a HD 598 se and the shures outperform them by a huge margin. I’m doubtful about these outperforming the hd650 though (but the 650s costs 35k). These do sound exceptionally good. My audio source is mostly the fiio x1 2nd gen dap. And I usually listen to audio cd rips in lossless formats. As the impedance is not that much you can use these with your smartphone as well (i would recommend using lossless files though).These also sound great with iphone’s music.
2. Built quality. Its mostly good quality plastic with the driver covers on each side being made of metal. It can take a fall or two but i would recommend you handle these well, especially the wires sticking out of the earcups.
Bottom line- If you are planninng on spending about 10k on good quality headphones then these should be the one, not the m50x. I don’t hate the m50x, but they are not worth the money with their awful earpads, built quality and sibilant sound quality.

僕も10年ほど前に買って、5年ほどで耳当ての根元部分が折れてしまいました。
しかし諦めないでください。プラスチック補修材を使えば何とかなります。
プラスチック補修材、アマゾンにも売っていますので探してみてください。
せっかくのSHUREですから直してみましょう。

音色は最高だと思います。
しかし、ベルトのユニット取り付け部が3年ぐらいで壊れる、というのが2回連続で起こりました。この壊れ方はこの機種で有名な現象で、色んな所で批判的なレビューが書かれていますが、改善されていないようです。購入したものは、代理店のヒビノの3年保証が付いていたように思いますが、保証期間が切れてからまもなく壊れたようです。
このような壊れ方をするようでは、業務用の用途としては使えないのではないかと思うんですけどね・・・
音質は最高ですが、3年後にまた同じ思いをするのもイヤなので、残念ながら買い換えはこの機種ではなく、他社製品にしました。
