I always buy Sony for quality and these headphones are not disappointing. They really hug your ears so the bass response is great. I do not find these uncomfortable as other reviewers say, but maybe it’s because I don’t wear them for 12 hours at a time that maybe a youngster would. I only use these for Walkman, Ipod, etc…I wouldn’t use them for serious home system listening, because I have bigger noise canceling headphones. They are very light, and totable even without folding. I like the volume control, it’s just quicker than device controls. That’s my two cents!

Sound is good. Don’t like the ear pieces alot.(I have to put on shades…then the Sony…then the hat. And the volume control, which I need, is too far down the cord.

Pros:
-Very comfortable to use for long periods of times. I have them on all day everyday when I study and i forget that I have them on. (I have a bigger than average head)
-Once you get used to the volume control then it becomes really hard to use any headphones without volume control.
– The sound quality is good for music. and the speakers are loud enough to drown any background noise without being noise canceling.
Cons
– This is my third pair of this model in the past 5 years. this shows how happy I was with the pros even though they tend to break very easily (not the plastic but the cord where it connects to the volume control.)
– It seems like right past the year mark, there are some sound impurity in the form of low static if you are moving around. not sure if it is a sign that the speakers are breaking or that the 3.5mm jack is causing it
– the cord is very weak and any tug on it might cause some sort of rip right where it goes into the volume control. this will cause one of the 2 speakers to not work all together which is the case with my current(3rd) pair.
Final Thoughts:
there are amazing for comfort and even sound quality if you do not mind the idea that you will need to buy a new pair every 1-2 years.
I had tried other sonys, maxell, bose, and others but these remain the best in comfort, its a shame they do not last longer.

The design of this product renders them merely adequate. The “v” shaped headband is awkward and very tight-fitting which presses on the temples making them very uncomfortable to wear for an extended period of time. Despite the tightness of the fit however, I still found myself consistantly adjusting the earpieces. The sound quality is good but the overall assessment of this product is such that I can recommend it only if you have a conical shaped head.

This is a very good product,
Sony delivers in this MDRG58V headphone package. Overall Volume is a problem though. Connected to my home theatre system, its just lousy, the volume control doesn’t even respond due to the low output signal. If it did respond, this would be a 5/5 rating. Connected to my computer using Nero Media Player 6, The output is the best thing i’ve stuck in my ear. You woun’t beleive the clarity of the bass, high hats and tweeter output. I’m immediately reminded of an automobile high end sound system (This could just be an amp, aftermarket stereo and speakers) Really- it has that impact. To crown it off it has a nice metallic blue finnish on the ear pad casing which shows midnight blue (almost purple) when tilted at different angles. The sony labels on the ear pads just makes people put them on and have a listen. For everyday use I have my Palm Tungsten E2 which has a decent high quality output accurately captured by these headphones. Overall I’d say its well worth the money. Happy listening
